Tasty summer treats

We delight in the freedom of summer, but we’re starting to feel the sapping effects of its heat. Sometimes the best way to fight this debilitating heat is to simply have a tasty, chilly treat. Today, we bring back our tasty column with a few easy and delicious ways to treat yourself on a summer day. All the ideas we bring you today are extremely easy and can be accomplished by anyone looking for something simple on a summer day.

Making any of these would be a great way to bond with the new friends you can make in a shared flat in the city. If you’re still looking for an accommodation in Valencia, check out some of our information on the neighbourhoods in the area so you can find the best place for you! We don’t want to waste any more time so let’s get straight into our ideas.

We’re going to start with the easiest item on our list. We used to do this as kids, but totally forgot about it until now, and trust us, it’s mind blowing. Two words: frozen fruit. I know, I know, it sounds dumb, but putting a couple slices of watermelon or a few berries in the freezer for a couple hours is a game changer; they become almost like fresh, bite-size popsicles. This is the cheapest and easiest idea we have for you, so it’s definitely worth a try.

  • If you’re looking for a real popsicle, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. To get that real popsicle look, you’ll need to buy some popsicle molds, but you could try making them in a small cup for a free, kind of weird looking, homemade popsicle. For a berry popsicle, put 1 and a half cups of your favorite berries into a blender along with the juice of half a lemon and blend together. Add about ¼ cup of water along with 1 or 2 tablespoons of honey depending on how sweet you want it to be, and blend until smooth. Next, put this mix into your chosen molds and freeze for around 4 hours or until they are solid.

  • While you have the blender out, let’s talk about smoothies. A unique smoothie combination is the delicious mango-lime. Add 2 cups of frozen mango chunks, the juice of one lime or lemon, 1 banana, ¾ cups of plain yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of honey or other sweetener to a blender, and blend until smooth. This may be a little too thick, so add a splash of coconut milk or water to the mix to thin it out a bit. This should make two cups of the smoothie, so definitely share it with a friend.

  • For a delicious watermelon juice, similar to an agua fresca, place the flesh from half of a watermelon into a blender with a cup of cold water and the juice of a lime. Blend until smooth, and then sweeten to taste. Finally, strain the mixture out of the blender and into a pitcher. This juice can be served with a slice of lime and a few mint leaves to enhance the flavor of the drink.
